Main Points In The Topic.
Important, know about events happening around the world, unlikely, affect your daily life
DISCUSSION.
1) Agree:
a) Knowing about events happening around the world will enrich our knowledge and broaden our horizon. Besides, we can share our opinions on some current affairs with our friends, which will help us form a more comprehensive critical thinking.
b) Some of the events happening around the world, such as some financial events, do exert influences on our daily life. For example, the 2008 financial crisis, the fate of the former digital giant Nokia, etc. has more or less brought changes to our daily life.
2) Disagree:
a) Today's people suffer great pressure from work and daily lives, that's to say, they have to deal with various issues related to both their work and daily lives. Therefore, they have limited energy to focus on events happening around the world, especially when these events are unlikely to affect their daily life.
b) Some of the events happening around the world, such as some political events in some countries, are none of our business. Even if we pay some attention to these political issues, we can do nothing to them. Therefore, why bother to know these events?
TEST TAKER'S RESPONSE
Depending on personal experience, personality type and emotional concern, we find that some people think it important to know about events happening around the world, while others do not concur with this idea. From my point of view, it is essential for us to know global news, even if it seems unlikely to affect our daily lives. My arguments for my point are listed as follows.
The first reason for my propensity for my view is that the world is globalized. Nowadays we live in a globalized Earth where all parts of the globe are intertwined with each other. Countries are so deeply connected to each other that most countries are hard to separate itself from others. A typical example of this is the pandemic of COVID-19. The coronavirus epidemic first erupted in China, but it took only a few weeks to spread across the globe. So it is important for us to know global events, as human beings are deeply connected with each other.
Moreover, keeping informed about global news can broaden our horizons, thus we can be wiser. It is easy to see that our world boasts various kinds of civilization and culture, and one country cannot hold all the values across the globe. Therefore, through learning what is happening on the other side of the Earth, we can increase our experience and understand different values, which makes us wiser and more tolerable.
The argument I support in the first paragraph is also in a position of advantage because we can act in advance. Knowing global events means you can have a clear understanding of the geopolitical situation, thus you can act early to prevent yourself from hazardous global events, say the economic recession or warfare.
In a word, knowing global news does no harm to everybody. So it is sagacious for us to keep informed about global events.
