TASK RESPONSE.
Sundry governments drain their coffers not only on public services, but also the arts. I do partake arts are as important as public services and governments should accord them equal importance when investing.
It is imperative for governments to spend on public services such as hospitals, roads and schools because they are the basic needs of human life, survival and health, without which, life would be dreadful. For example, if a government does not spend enough money on hospitals, public health would greatly be affected. Similarly, if not enough money is spent on schools, education and eventually human labor would be a challenge. Multifarious poor people will still have access to life basics if governments can invest in them for the public.
Suffice to note, arts institutions can hardly generate much profit for sustainability, so without some help from governments, many theatres and other such places may have to close. Arts are a source of great pleasure, for example, music and theatre performances which provide entertainment to the public. Further still, arts are custodians of the culture of a society, and if note supported, their demise would mean the death of cultures. Ideally, supporting arts can be a great way to enhance government coffers as they can boost tourism.
My verdict, there are clear benefits of ensuring a large amount of investment goes into public services as this influences the quality of life for humanity. That said, I wholeheartedly support government investment in arts for their sustainability and revenue to governments.
