Addiction to anything is bad, so it is the case of smoking. Sundry people globally still smoke however, many governments are banning the use of cigarettes in public places, which I presume can be advantageous.

Smoking breeds severe lung and heart diseases not only to the smokers, but also people around as passive smokers. Addicts to smoking smoke quite a number of cigarettes so all the fumes mixed in the air will lead to air pollution and many more diseases. For example, a recent survey was conducted on July 2022 at Oxford university among people who smoke regularly, with the result showing every one of them having damaged 80% of their lungs.

Suffice to note, these habits make a bad impact on the young generation as they will learn smoking and once grown, cannot resist smoking as they might think it being a good and healthy habit. For instance, Shashi Tharoor wrote a magazine about the " Impact of addiction on youngsters", showing 90% of children follow their parent's habits and try to copy them. which ultimately destroys their health and future.

To sum, smoking does not impact the environment alone, but also affects the young generation behavior and health wise, and thus banning smoking in public places would be a great undertaking.
