The quality of life is one of the most important factors that determine our happiness. Some people think that nowadays life is much easier and more comfortable than before, while the others hold the divergent attitude. From my perspective, given the reasons below, I strongly support this idea.
Firstly, the development of transportation has largely improved the ease and convenience of our lives, making it possible for people to live their lives better. For example, when our grandparents were children, with the shortage of transportation tools such as cars, subways, planes, and buses, most people had to walk to their distance, thus spending a lot of time on the road unnecessarily. In contrast, with the widespread use of public transportation, nowadays people have more access to those transportation tools mentioned above, thus saving a great deal of time. Hence, people today live their lives more easily and comfortably. In addition, the saved time can be used for people's personal enjoyment and therefore further improves the quality of their lives.
Secondly, with advances in communication, nowadays people can have better connections with their families, friends, workmates, etc. Hence, people can deal with their relationships more effectively and therefore add more comfort to their lives. To be detailed, in our grandparents' generation, few families had telephones. Therefore, most people at that time needed to talk face to face or send letters to transmit messages, which is inconvenient and ineffective. In contrast, with the introduction of smartphones and social media such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, people today can employ their smartphones to communicate with their friends and workmates by directly messaging them on social media, thus making the communication more effective and comfortable.
Thirdly, with the development of agriculture and animal husbandry, food has become more and more accessible for people since the time when our grandparents were children. For instance, meat and vegetables were rare in the past, and the only thing that ordinary people can eat were rice and potatoes. Hence, in our grandparents' generation, except for those wealthy people, most people suffered from hunger and malnutrition. In contrast, nowadays we can find various kinds of food such as vegetables, meat, fruits, juices in supermarkets, and we can obtain almost everything we want to eat and drink. Therefore, it is easier for us to live healthy and comfortable lives than before.
To sum up, despite having potential negative impacts, the development of transportation, communication, agriculture, and animal husbandry makes the lives of nowadays people easier and more comfortable than before.
