1 Writing Task 1 - (Letter Writing) Sample
You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.
You are experiencing financial problems and want to ask your landlord if you can pay your rent late.
Write a letter to your landlord. In your letter explain:
• why you are writing to him
• why you cannot pay the rent
• when you will pay the rent.
Write at least 150 words.
You do NOT need to write any addresses.

TASK RESPONSE 1.
Dear Mrs. Joe, I am Paul, your tenant for quite some time now, and have always been timely with my rent. However, for this coming month, November, I humbly request that you allow me pay a little late. At the moment, I am financially handicapped because of my prolonged illness. I have been bedridden with an undisclosed illness for a month now and thus have missed work during the same period. Because I am paid piece-rate, the time away from work gravely dwindles my income. Moreover, the hospital bill has drained my coffers and thus a bit short of readies. I am thus requesting for an extension of the monthly pay of November. As you can recall my previous rent payment, this is my first time to request for an extension. I am certain I will be able to make rent payment by 15th November as I will have started work again.
